REED G. WILLIAMS:
I was born on September 29, 1953 in Rochester, N.Y. I attended the University of Rochester, graduating in 1976 with a B.A. in psychology. Thereafter, I attended the Gonzaga University School of Law, graduating in 1980. I was admitted to practice in New York state on February 18, 1981, and was admitted to the United States District Court (Western District of New York) and Bankruptcy Court (Western District of New York) also in 1981.
I initially joined a large law firm in Rochester, N.Y. and worked there for several years before entering into a partnership with my late father, Mitchell T. Williams, as Williams & Williams.
Throughout the time of my practice in New York, I represented a wide variety of clients: private, corporate and governmental. Representative clients include insurance companies, banks, Freddie Mac and the Ithaca Gun Company. In the late 1980s, I decided to move to Asheville, N.C., and did so in 1991, after having been admitted to the North Carolina State Bar in November of 1991. I was also admitted to practice in the United States District Court (Western District of North Carolina.) Upon moving to Asheville, N.C., I first worked for Russell & King, a highly regarded insurance defense firm, which handled civil litigation defense and the defense of workers' compensation employers and insurance carriers. I left that firm to represent plaintiffs in civil litigation and workers' compensation cases, and joined the firm of Elmore, Elmore & Williams, until I left that firm in 2005 to form my current firm, Williams & Mills, PLLC.
Throughout my career, until 2003, I also did criminal work in state and federal courts, both in New York and North Carolina. I decided in 2003 to concentrate solely on workers' compensation matters and civil litigation involving vehicular negligence (car, truck and motorcycle accidents,) and other types of personal injuries. I remain admitted to the New York State Bar.
JAMES H. MILLS:
I was born November 17, 1975 in Pinehurst, N.C. I grew up in Raeford, N.C., a small town in the southeastern corner of the state located next to Fort Bragg. I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated in 1998 with a degree in political science. Academically, I was a member of the Dean's List multiple times, and also a member of a Political Science Honor's Society. Thereafter, I attended Wake Forest University School of Law, graduating in 2001. I passed the bar that same year and was admitted to practice in North Carolina in September, 2001. I am also admitted to practice in the United States District Court (Western District of North Carolina.)
I initially joined a small law firm in Asheville, N.C., then known as Elmore, Elmore & Williams. After several years, I decided to branch out with my law partner and mentor, Reed G. Williams, and form my current firm, Williams & Mills, PLLC.
Throughout my time of practice, I have come to love criminal practice. I represent a wide range of clients, handling everything from traffic tickets up to and including capital murder cases. I handle misdemeanors and felonies in both state and federal courts, including but not limited to assaults and drug offenses ranging from simple possession to multi-state conspiracies. I also handle domestic violence cases for both plaintiffs and defendants.
I am married to Andrea F. Dray and have two wonderful step-children: Dr. Elizabeth Dray, and Joseph Dray, who is currently in college at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
